Jan. 29, 2022, is my mom’s 80th birthday. She has been gone since 2016. That is a while.
My Mom
Had 7 kids, 5 girls and 2 boys, and believe me, we all gave her all of her gray hair. She was an amazing person and a great mom. She supported me in all I did. She went thru some hard times in life. You might not believe it but I drove my mom crazy and was a pain in her side.
Hard times
When my older brother was born, he was handicapped. When she went out in public with him, she would get stares and looks. Some would even comment. She ignored them and went on with what she was doing. It must have been hard on her emotionally the way people would judge her.
Over the years we had certain people in our neighborhood that would talk behind my mom’s back about what her rebel kids were doing. Some would even tell her that her kids were bad for the things they were doing in their lives. You know the choices we made.
However, when their kids did worse she never said a word about that. She just carried on.
In-laws
When my parents moved back from California they lived down the street from my dad’s parents. They built a house on my grandfather’s farm, which was 2 houses away from my grandparents.
That house got to small for her growing family, so my parents bought my uncle’s lot and built a house next door to their old house and right next to my grandparents.
I couldn’t think of what it would be to grow up to my in-laws. It was nice for me, I got more food and I spent a lot of time with my grandparents since they were right next door. But, there were drawbacks. The stress on my mom. But, she was a warrior and made it through the times.
Support
She always supported me in whatever I did. She never missed a football game from the 8th grade thru my senior year. She was always there. No matter where the game was at or the time. She was there. I will always remember my mom being there to cheer me on.
Had my back
At times I found myself in the principals office and she was always there fighting for me. I wasn’t in trouble, I was not doing well in some of my classes and she was there to help me get out of them and move classes.
When my teachers said I wasn’t smart enough. She was there to set them straight. Then it was up to me to prove them wrong.
Push her
I realized that you shouldn’t push her too hard. She wasn’t having a good day and I was pushing her buttons and she took me and lifted me off the ground put me up against the wall and told me exactly what she was thinking. Then proceeded to break a wooden spoon on my butt. I learned not to do that again.
Happy Birthday
Mom, I want to wish you a Heavenly Birthday, I hope your 80th is going well.
