BYU traveled to Austin, Texas, to face the 7th-ranked Texas Longhorns. How did they do? Let’s examine the game.
Stats
BYU | Stats | Texas |
17 | First Downs | 16 |
197 | Passing | 170 |
95 | Rushing | 184 |
292 | Total | 354 |
3-20 | Penalties | 6-40 |
3 | Turnovers | 2 |
33:06 | Possession | 26:54 |
If you look at the stats, you will see that BYU was pretty even with the 7th-ranked Longhorns. However, the score of
BYU | 6 |
Longhorns | 35 |
It results from a poor rushing game and, once again, turnovers.
Slovis threw two picks and fumbled the ball.
My views
- BYU allowed a punt returned for a TD.
- A couple of significant returns on the interceptions
- They had plenty of chances to put points on the board but couldn’t convert in the red zone.
- The running game still needs some help.
- Slovis has to improve his performance or sit on the bench and allow another quarterback to see what he has.
- They have to convert while in the red zones. I mean, they need to put seven points on the board, not just field goals.
Texas is in the hunt for one last Big 12 championship before leaving for the SEC next year. It might be the last one for a while. The SEC is tough.
But it was another low-scoring game with few statistics. It looks like playing the state of Texas isn’t a good option this year.
Next
