It all had to end at some point, But I never thought it would be this way.
9-0
Today is November 17, 2024, and BYU takes on Kansas Jayhaws at LES. LES is for Lavell Edwards Stadium. It was a chilly night here in Provo. It was 32-33 degrees outside.
Well, will BYU make it to 10-0? That is a good question.
Questions
The typical questions I have for this game are the following:
- Well, the BYU offense shows up?
- Well, the Defense, ranked 3rd in the conference, shows up?
The Game
It was an 8:15 PM MST kick-off on a nice night. BYU won the toss and deferred to receive the ball in the second half.
First Quarter
Kansas got the ball, drove the field, and scored a TD, putting them up by 7.
Kansas 7
BYU 0
That was all the scoring done in the first quarter.
2nd Quarter Quarter
BYU went down the field and kicked a 42-yard field goal.
Kansas 7
BYU 3
Then BYU went down the field in 8 plays and 69 yards and scored a touchdown.
Kansas 7
BYU 10
Kansas answered that TD with a FG. They went 68 yards and kicked an FG, putting the score at
Kansas 10
BYU 10
BYU went down the field, and Reztcalf threw an intersection in the end zone. The throw was short. The score was tied at ten going into halftime.
My thoughts on the first half
Well, it looks like BYU didn’t show up to play tonight. They should be running away (in my opinion) with this game. However, it is tied at 10.
The offense looks like they just got off the plane and have jet lag.
The Defense is doing well; they have allowed 10 points so far. But it could be worse.
Second half
Third Quarter
It was a dull quarter. BYU did go 66 yards down the field goal, making the score.
Kansas 10
BYU 13
Fourth Quarter
Well, BYU didn’t hold onto the lead for long. Kansas did a short kick; it touched a Kansas player, but they said it bounced off a BYU player. Another BYU jumped on it but couldn’t cover it, and Kansas recovered on the 3-yard line. They took four seconds to score a TD.
Kansas 17
BYU 13
BYU did go down the field, but they got a false start, which pushed them back for a 4th and 11. BYU only got 10 yards.
That ends the undefeated season for BYU.

Thoughts
I think Kansas had one purpose: to come in and dethrone BYU from the top spot in the conference and hand them their first loss of the season. They did just that.
Watching the game, it was noticeable that BYU wasn’t in it. Kansas came to play, and they played. BYU didn’t come into play at all.
The offense struggled once again. They stalled out and forgot how to play and catch balls. Granted, Retzlaff didn’t have a good throwing game and had a lot of overthrown or short throws.
On the other hand, it did make some great throws and got the ball where it needed to be in a concise window.
They allowed 17 points, the third-most in the conference. However, that is still 17 more points than they should have. The best Defense in the conference allowed 49 points.
It came down to mindset; Kansas had it, and BYU didn’t. Good game, Jay Hawks.
To answer my questions above
- Well, the BYU offense shows up?
- Well, the Defense, ranked 3rd in the conference, show up?
Nope, they didn’t!!
Next Game
The game will be played in the Valley of the Sun, Tempe, AZ, against Arizona State. Arizona State is in the running for the championship game. It will be a good game. I believe it will be at 2:30 PM CST, which is 1:30 PM MST, and on ESPN.
