Update of Quarter Final Games

Eight teams will enter these bowl games, and only four will advance. Thus, the game is coming down to the wire.

Fiesta Bowl

Played on Dec. 31, 2024, in Phoenix, AZ.

It featured Boise State, the number 3 seed, playing Penn State. It is the Mountian West vs Big 10. Boise St. had a bye and didn’t have to play a game to get in. Penn State did have to play. I think that was the difference in this game.

Penn State won the game, but playing a few weeks ago helped them play better. Boise St. looked good, but they were also rusty. Penn State was just too much for them.

Penn State will move on and play the winner of the Sugar Bowl, Notre Dame, and Georgia.

Peach Bowl

Played in Atlanta, Georgia on Jan. 1, 2025.

Featured Arizona St vs Texas.

The previous Big 12 Champion is playing the current Big 12 champion. Texas is in the SEC now, and they played a couple of weeks ago to get into this game. I think that gave the Longhorns the advantage. Texas scored on two separate plays that set the tone for the game.

The Sun Devils got a safety; if the quarterback missed the bowl after the strip, it would have been a Sun Devils TD.

Skattebo, the running back for the Devils, had some good runs but was throwing up on the sideline. Too many peaches?

Skattebo took it upon himself to make this game exciting. In the fourth, the Devils returned from 16 points down to tie it at 24.

It went into double overtime, where Texas won with a pick at the goal line.

Rose Bowl

They say this is the granddaddy of them all.

Played on Jan. 1, 2025, in Pasadena, California.

Featured Ohio State and Oregon, both of these teams are in the Big 10. The winner will go on and play Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

Well, it appeared it was all Ohio State. They wanted this game more.

Sugar Bowl

It was delayed from Jan. 1 to Jan. 2, 2025, due to an attack in New Orleans at 3:15 AM, killing 15 people.

The game was played in New Orleans at the Ceaser Superdome.

This game featured Notre Dame and Georgia. It was a hard-fought game. It was a scoreless first quarter. Then it was tied at 3 Before ND went up by three. Then they got a fumble and scored a TD. ND went into halftime with a lead of 13 to 3.

The second half started with a TD run back on the ND kickoff. That was the turning point, and Georgia couldn’t overcome it.

ND plays Penn State in the Orange Bowl next week.

Thoughts

Well, the top four teams are out of the playoffs. Was the bye worth it? I don’t think so. They played a game to get into the playoffs, which benefited the winners. Having almost a month off was just not worth it.

Now, who is your favorite to win?
