BYU vs UCF Recap: Shocking Double OT Thriller in Orlando

The Game

On a nice, sunny day in Orlando, BYU and UCF met for an afternoon game with a 1:30 PM MT kickoff. It was a nice, toasty 74 degrees with some rain showers. It is better than the 56 here.

My Thoughts

Here are my thoughts on the game

Game Day Food

Got some Jdawgs, a hot dog place here in Utah. I got a Polish dog with

Special Sauce
Banana Peppers
Jalpheos
Suarkrut

Got some fries as well. Not sure if the fries are worth the $4.

Got a video of them.

1st Half

Missed the first 5 or so min. But BYU went down and scored on the first drive. Then UCF’s defense just stepped up. BYU went up 14 to 10 and drove down until the ball went off a UCF lineman and was intercepted. UCF goes down and scores to go into halftime leading 14 to 17.

Thoughts so far

From what I am seeing, BYU is playing sloppily right now on both sides of the ball. They don’t look like the No. 2 team in the country. They look like an unrated team.

BYU has to step it up on both sides of the ball. They have to step it up and stop the run. I mean, Chambers is just running. Jenkins is making the plays. BYU can move the ball. They have to show it.

2nd Half

The 2nd Half wasn’t much better. UCF had BYU’s number all game long. BYU did come back and tie the game and then held the Knights on 4th and goal. Then BYU just needed a first down to force overtime. But that wasn’t in the cards. UCF drove down to kick a FG to win. But BYU blocked it with 4 seconds left. It was still UCF ball because they kicked on 3rd down. However, the UCF kicker lost his helmet. So he couldn’t kick the FG. He had to sit out a play. But UCF didn’t have a timeout. A 10-second run-off was required, which forced OT.

BYU did score first, then UCF scored. But that was about it. UCF scored in the 2OT, and that is how it ended.

Stats

Thoughts

It was a very different game than I expected. UCF came to play, and BYU came not sure what to expect. But we have the loss under our belts, and BYU can now focus on playing football. But UCF played the game of the year against the number 2 team in the nation. They just wanted it more.

Sometimes this happens. BYU got to figure out why it happens and fix it.
