Finally, the day has arrived for the Alamo Bowl, which features the BYU Cougars playing the Colorado Buffalos. In the words of Jake Rezclaf, “The People’s Big 12 Championship”.
Alamo Bowl
It is the most watched bowl game outside of the New Year’s Day bowl games. The attendance for this game was around 64,261. The game is played in San Antonio, Texas. It should feature a Big 12 and a PAC 12 school. However, there weren’t any bowl-eligible teams in the PAC 12.
This was the first time two teams in the same conference played each other in a bowl game since 1978.
The Game
Some questions for the game
- Will BYU show up?
- Will the defense show good?
- What impact will the Heisman winner have on playing a good game?
First Quarter
BYU Started the game with the ball, and they punted it away, as did Colorado. BYU was the first the game.
BYU 7
Colo. 0
BYU kicked a FG, making it a 10 – 0 game.
2nd Quarter
It was all BYU. The Colorado offense couldn’t produce anything. Sanders was being pressured, hit, or sacked. They were in the negative yards in rushing for the first half. Going into Halftime, BYU was up by 20
BYU 20
Colo. 0
This is the second time Colorado was shut out in the first half this year.
First half thoughts
BYU came out on fire and proved they came to play in this game. The defense was fired up, and it appeared that Jay Hill worked the defense hard during the weeks off. The defense had a point to make to the college football world.
How will the second half go for the Cougars?
Second Half
Colorado had the ball first but couldn’t do much with it. BYU took it down and scored, putting the game at
BYU 27
Colo. 0
Colorado did score a TD, putting them at seven and BYU at 27.
BYU scored another touchdown. It seemed that the Colorado defense didn’t take BYU seriously, and BYU took advantage of that.
BYU 33
Colo. 7
BYU was in charge of the game, kicked a late FG, and put the Cougars up 36 to 7.
Colorado did score a touchdown, putting them at 14, and that is how the game would end.
BYU 36
Colo. 14
Good game. BYU played like they did on the first of the year. Good hard defense.

Thoughts
The questions I asked above
- Will BYU show up?
- Yes, they showed up, and they wanted to play some ball.
- Will the defense show good?
- Holding Colorado to only 2 yards rushing was impressive.
- What impact will the Heisman winner have on playing a good game?
- He did not have a significant impact on this game. He picked the ball off and scored a touchdown, and he did have over 100 receiving yards. But other than that, he wasn’t a big player.
I thought BYU would not attend this game, but they proved me wrong. They came to play, and they showed people what they could do.
BYU flew down on Christmas Eve, unsure if that had anything to do with it. But they went to play. Maybe Colorado was overconfident when coming into this game. One of the top QBs and the Heisman winner, they thought they could run all over the Cougars. But it was the opposite: BYU ran the Buffalos out of the stadium.
When Glasker picked off Sanders, he did the Sanders dance. What a great tribute to CColorado’scoach. That is the dance Deion would do when he intercepted the ball.
It was a good game. I wish I had been there.
What is next
BYU will be looking forward to next year. Will they return with the same enthusiasm as this year?
You can find out more in the 2024 BYU Review that I will be doing on January 17, 2025, and that link will be here once that post is published.
Why so long, Justin? Well, I have other things to discuss, and it all depends on the Arizona St. game. So come back for more stuff.
