Well, well, well, this off-season for BYU has been interesting. If I say so myself. Let’s talk about it.
Honor Code
BYU’s honor code reflects the values of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here is the link to all of the Policies.
https://honorcode.byu.edu/policies
There are several other polices on this site as well. However, the one we will discuss is called the Church Educational System Honor Code. You can find it here
https://policy.byu.edu/view/church-educational-system-honor-code
Here is a breakdown of the code:
- Maintain an Ecclesiastical Endorsement, including striving to deepen faith and maintain gospel standards
- Be honest
- Live a chaste and virtuous life, including abstaining from sexual relations outside marriage between a man and a woman. Living a chaste and virtuous life also includes refraining from same-sex romantic behavior.
- Abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, vaping, marijuana, and other substance abuse
- Participate regularly in Church services
- Respect others, including the avoidance of profane and vulgar language
- Obey the law and follow campus policies, including the CES Dress and Grooming standards
- Encourage others to comply with the Honor Code and Dress and Grooming standards.

Why am I talking about this
Well, something has happened in May of 2025. There were charges filed against Jake Relzlaff, who has been accused of Sexual Assault against a Utah Woman. Yes, you have read that right.
Now, on this honor code thing, it states the following:
- Live a chaste and virtuous life, including abstaining from sexual relations outside marriage between a man and a woman. Living a chaste and virtuous life also includes abstaining from same-sex romantic behavior.
Now, the charges that Jake is facing go against this code.
One question is, why should it matter that Jake isn’t a church member? So, why the big deal?
Well, first of all, Sexual Assault is against the law. You should never do that in the first place.
If you attend BYU, you sign this honor code and expect to live by it.
Big Deal
Let’s go back a little bit. If Jake Relzlaff, had consensual sex, that might have been fine at other schools. But at BYU, consensual sex is still a violation of the honor code.
That means he violated the code and will be dismissed from the team and the school.
However, what he is being accused of is far worse.
Future
Now, we are looking at the future of the quarterback at BYU. Jake had a lot of potential at BYU and went on to be a good draft pick. Who will take the spot at quarterback? That is the big question we are looking for this summer. Who will be the quarterback, and what changes will that have on BYU in the rankings? How will they play this year, coming off a great year last year?
Mistakes
We all make mistakes; however, some mistakes can’t be overlooked. Jake’s charges are big. If found guilty, he will have to face the music.
