BYU vs Arizona Recap: Cougars Rally from Behind in Rain-Soaked Double OT Victory (Oct. 11, 2025)

The number 18-ranked Cougars came to Tucson, AZ, to play the Wildcats. This would be a good game—that is, if the lighting stays away. BYU comes into the game as one of 11 underrated teams still in the season at the start of the game.

The Game

BYU is favored, but Arizona is a good team. On defense, they are right after BYU. Arizona has not allowed a passing touchdown this year, which is odd because Iowa State scored many points.

Let’s get into the game.

First Half

Well, each team’s first series ended in a punt. BYU was first to score on a run by AJ Martin. That was a sweet run.

BYU struck again with an incredible passing touchdown to Kingston. That stat of no passing touchdown allowed was broken, which I thought it would be.

Arizona came back and scored a TD on a nice drive.

That was all in the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter, the game was stopped due to a weather delay, with lightning within 8 miles.

It was about a one-hour and 14-minute delay.

After the delay, BYU came out and continued on offense. They made a fake punt, and it fell short of the first down.

Arizona took over on the BYU 44, and we only came away with 3 points

The rain keeps coming down.

BYU came down the field and missed an FG. Arizona came back and went down the field, scoring a TD to go ahead.

Bear threw his second INT of his career. BYU didn’t score in that 2nd quarter, which stopped the consecutive quarters scoring.

Thoughts

BYU started strong but slowed down after that rain delay. Arizona came out and kept the same intensity.

BYU has got to settle down and get back to the basics. L. Martian has over 100 yards in that first half, 116 yards. So he is off to a good start. Let’s keep it up, BYU.

2nd Half

When the quarterback is still with the ball and is in the process of throwing and getting hit, it isn’t a roughing-the-passer call. Refs suck so far. No calls on Arizona for holding, or picking the defender off on a crossing pattern within 5 yards.

I have never seen Coach Staki so mad. I don’t blame him; that was a BS call. He kept Arizona in the game, and Arizona threw a pick.

3rd quarter was a back-and-forth play. Arizona had an 8-minute drive, being bailed out by the refs.

BYU threw a pick, which was Bear’s second in the game.

One more quarter to go.

This will determine the game, really, announcers. That is how the game is usually decided.

Well, Arizona came out in the 4th quarter and scored a TD.

The announcer said, “No one will catch him.” Well, when BYU is being held all the time… they won’t catch him.

BYU went down the field and kicked a field goal.

BYU got the ball back after a great punt return from Kingston. They scored with 19 seconds left, and they tied up the game.

Arizona got a TD, but Arizona was called for a holding. Finally!!

They kicked a field goal.

BYU got a turn, and they kicked a field goal as well

Thoughts

Now, this was a good game. I think that BYU lost its desire after that delay. Arizona scored 24 straight points. BYU fought back and beat the Wildcats in two overtimes.

Good game.

Next Game

Utah comes to Lovell Edwards Stadium on Fox on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at 6 PM MST.
