Let’s take a look at the 2024 Big 12 football season’s standings. We are eleven weeks in, however, there has only been 9 games played for some and for some only 8. Go figure.
Wild Weekend, Nov. 2, 2024
It was a wild weekend of football for the Big 12. We have some top teams losing.
Texas Tech beat Iowa State by 1, thus stopping Iowa State’s win streak at 7.
Houston beat Kansas State by 5, bringing Kansas State to a 7-2 record.
Preseason Rankings
This is how they thought the season would end.

So they had Utah up at the top. Nevertheless, they dropped in the rankings when they lost to Arizona at home.

A lot of difference
The polls have shown that the pre-season picks are merely picks. They are based on what the team has done in the past. But that doesn’t come into play when the season starts. The top team in pre-season drops to near the bottom. Kansas State is still up there in the top, and Oklahoma State is at the bottom.
You never know why the conference will go before the season begins.
Thoughts
I am a BYU fan; I am as surprised as you are that they are number one. I thought they would be in the top seven but not number one. They are doing a good job this year. As I said, you never know how the season will go until you start playing.
