BYU Beats West Virginia 38-24: Cougars Stay Undefeated at 5-0 Despite Slow Second Half | Friday Night Lights Recap

Friday night lights, people. The Vampire Cougs are playing at LES against West Virginia. Let’s find out how the game went.

Thoughts Video

I said that the BYU would win by 40+, did they do that?

1st Half

Well, West Virginia came out with the third-string quarterback, starting his first game. The second-string quarterback did a medical redshirt and will transfer in the spring. What a good team player.

BYU scored first and second, making the score 14 -0.

West Virginia came down and scored a Field Goal.

BYU scored another TD

Then, on a pitch on the BYU 14, WV came in, blocked it, and recovered it on the 3-yard line. Then they went on to score a TD.

BYU scored right before the half.

Bear threw his first interception of the year when the defender’s end followed his eyes, stepped in front of the pass, and grabbed it.

BYU did intercept the ball and almost made a pick-6. I guess all the picks could be considered nearly pick-6s.

It was a good first half

Thoughts so far

Well, it was not what I was hoping it would be. I figured WV would come out and play, and they did. The new quarterback was on fire, and he was running the ball pretty well.

The second half is coming up.

Second Half

The Cougars started off slow, with only 3 points in the third quarter and 7 points in the fourth. West Virginia came out and scored 14 points in the second half. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of thoughts on the second half because I fell asleep. I was up at 4 a.m. and was going all day long.

Thoughts

The game didn’t go as I thought it would, but a win is a win. West Virginia has some growing to do, and they will be a good team. BYU still needs to settle down, score, and be more disciplined. Bear threw two interceptions, but being a true freshman, he has to learn how not to let his eyes show where he wants to go. Both interceptions were due to the defender stepping in front of the receiver as they followed Bear’s eyes.

Now, Jack Kelly left the game with a hurt shoulder, and Glasker also left. We will need them back for the Utah game.

Next Week

BYU travels to Tucson, Arizona, to play the Arizona Wildcats at 6PM MST. As of the blog post, Arizona is 3-1. It should be a good game down in the valley of the sun.
